Climate Change is one of the biggest challenges that we as a society are facing. What we need in our General Assembly is not only someone who understands the impact of climate change, but a Representative who is ready to roll up their sleeves, and do their due diligence to make Illinois into a good example of how to properly deal with these matters head on.
This is my six-point legislation plan to combat Climate Change. These are the six ideas that I will work toward in Springfield to make sure that, as a state, we succeed in doing our part to help regulate the climate.
- Instate legislative policies to cap emissions statewide.
- Ensure that we, as a state, are investing in clean energy technology.
- Become the center for green jobs by offering incentives to companies to come to Illinois and hire our residents.
- Legislate to make Illinois 100% dependent on renewable energy by 2050, in alignment with major cities and countries around the world.
- Instate tax incentives for restaurants with a 50% or more low-carbon diet menu. Reducing meat consumption is an effective way to save our planet, as livestock is one of the biggest contaminators of our atmosphere. The incentive I would push for would be somewhere between the 1.25% -2.25% range. This will also help small businesses that sell mostly vegetarian options.
- Implement sustainable public transportation. In district 42, and in areas outside of Chicago, public transportation for purposes of both work commute and personal travel is hard to find. My resolution: to ensure that, at the very least, there is a bus route between every town within DuPage County, outside of the weekdays and after 6PM. I will also fight to bring ZeroBus Fleet to our state. ZeroBus Fleet is a zero emission, all-electric bus that would assist in both climate change and in developing hot spots like Downtown Naperville, Lisle, and Wheaton. The ZeroBuses recharge automatically in just a few minutes along their routes while passengers load and unload.
